I have a raid 10 array in my PC (2 barracudas 1WD Blue and a WD green). The green drive is much slower thaan the others (around 70MB read) could it be bottlenecking my array or are these numbers normal?

Seriously you have different type drives in the same RAID?  Not good practice.

What model are the barracudas?

I have different drives because they are different batches and the barracudas are both the 7200rpm models one is new the other is about a year old

still not good practice.

Anyway ....  this is the stats for my WD Blacks in RAID1 (not 10) so you numbers are not bad but not great either for slower+stripped.

a RAID array is as fast as the slowest drive

putting WD Greens in RAID is a really really horrible idea

yea figured as much (only spare drive I had). how simple is it to swap out the drive, I don't mind waiting for the raid to rebuild?

if you really trust the RAID software, just "fail" the drive (pull it out) and plug the new one in.   Reboot require if not hot-pluggable.   rebuild the array - and leave the computer idle for as many hours / days as that takes.

I would back-up everything the rebuild it from scratch with proper drives

ok, I'm getting some wd blacks on payday and some reds for my server. I'll rebuild the raid after my server is running

If you have a payday coming up, get SSD's instead.  much better speed.

My RAID0 of NVMe SSD's:

You are correct, i am only including that to show off.

I'm using reds in my server (which backups my pc nightly) the raid in my pc is just for unimportant files and Powah!!!!

-snip-

I would agree with everyone else, get a SSD for the VMs.

As for RAID10, I had four WD 4TB Reds in RAID10, that was around 350 sequential (I forgot the random though) for both read / write. I have six WD 4TB Reds in RAID6 now:

and eight WD 4TB Re SAS drives in RAID6:
