I have overclocked my i7 6700k to 4.4 Ghz @ 1.35v (Lowest voltage I could use for the OC) and my temperatures on the package exceed 100C. I am using a Thermaltake Water 3.0 240mm AIO and third party Kryonaut Thermal Grizzly thermal paste. I do not have the original foam tape for the backplate installation, so I just held it on my my fingers while installing the cooler. I smudged the cooler on the CPU a bit, because there were no rails to guide the installation of the AIO, and I also applied a little over the recommended amount of thermal paste on the CPU. The radiator is on the top of my H440 case acting as an exhaust with a GTX 980 overclocked to 1535 Mhz as well in the system (Heaven says GPU boost boosted my GPU to over 1650mhz but I find that hard to believe.)

1.35V is high, so that is to be expected. Although, that is high for being on water, so you might want to try reapplying your thermal compound, cleaning the surface of your CPU with rubbing alcohol, and topping off your cooler.

Yeah, I have thought of that. I have no adhesive foam for the backplate though. Will that be an issue? It usually takes two or more minutes trying to get the damned screws in and will that impact the spread and effectiveness of the compound?

It might cause spots on your CPU that have more thermal compound then others, which can make the cooler lopsided and decrease it's effectiveness. When applying thermal compound, I recommend holding it on for about 2 minutes and then fidgeting to get the screws in if you don't have the adhesive foam this way the thermal compound can set before you mess with it. Also, apply pressure to the whole backplate when putting screws in to further prevent uneven compound.

Normal? 1.35v get 100ºC??and they say that kaby lake is hot? My 7700k on 1.35 5ghz with noctua nh-d15 and max temps are 85... something wrong on it here

I believe something wrong there remount the cooler... also spend few euros and buy decent thermal paste...

I believe that my 4790K would have similar temps as well (it also does 4.8GHz fully stable @ 1.35V)

Isn't his Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut basically the best thermal paste in the market..?

huh? Never heard of it

I don't think that's normal, at all. On the other hand, if it's over 100 the CPU should have crashed anyways. Sounds like a software problem, which program are you using to measure temps? I know they can get wonky with OCing

haven't heard eather..

try buy noctua nt-h1 and make a test it costs like 6€ around ? im using it for quite long time never had a problem with it... before i jump to noctua nh-d15 i was using coolermaster hyper 212x and kept my 7700k @ 4.8 ghz on 85º C max was on 1.3v i think

Kryonaut is made for overclocking and it beats up the one you mentioned so there shouldn't be anything wrong with the paste itself.

well m8 don't know maybe something wrong with your cooler... clean it up and remount it... make sure you also dont put to much thermal on it and also dont put to much pressure on the mount
