Hi all,

After playing some music at rather high volumes and dropping my headset a few times today, the right ear on my Hyper X Cloud is crackling when I press on the outside casing. Bass is almost non existent but most other audio sounds fine. Is there a diagnosis for this? I'm thinking I've burst the membrane or something. If so, is there any way to repair that or am I going to have to start saving for a new headset lol.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

Just those headphones?

I can't help if you don't quote me. How am I supposed to know if you need my premium support? Now starting at £399.99 a year.

My guess is the voice coil has detached partially from the diaphragm. Which is not really repairable unless Kingston offers to do it. Probably cheaper to get another headset.

Might look into getting a better more premium pair of headphones anyway as I've had these nearly two years.

I'm not familiar with how the cloud is constructed, but I would at least try disassemble it to the point where you can see the front of the driver. Because the other possibility is that there is a foreign object that got bumped into contact with the driver when you dropped it.

I doubt I'll be able to do that without causing more damage as they seem to be sealed shut.

Hey,

You may be able to repair it if it has just got a lose connection, however I would checking if it is still under warranty as you may be able to return it or get it repaired. Have you checked all of the connections to the headset and computer that you are able to get at?

My bad,  have unscrewed the 4 screws and are inside the headset now.

If you're out of warranty and aren't interested in contacting the manufacturer to see if they can diagnose or replace the driver, go ahead and unscrew them. That should life off a retaining ring, there will be a layer of fabric/foam that you lift out, exposing the driver unit.

I can take some pictures if that would help.

yes.

It's unlikely it's a foreign object as the clouds have a solid surround/enclosure.

you may have damaged the voice coil, but that would be affecting all sounds, not just bass. I'd have though you've knocked a connection loose inside.

Will take a few pics, one minute.

Well there goes my theory, unless the left connection in the picture has become loose (since the right one looks good).

The wire is quite frayed and it does seem to be looser than the other. Unfortunately I have no soldering equipment... Thanks for the help.
