Help with DIY Laser Driver

I am planning on making my own laser from an old dvd burner but i don't know what driver to get. I want to get it off ebay so any help is appreciated.

I would just get the laser directly from ebay instead of going through the trouble to extract it from the DVD. FYI, a dvd laser is not powerful enough to light things on fire, but it can still blind you. Be careful

I know but the diodes i can get on ebay are 5mw but the dvd drive one is around 100mw. Also I decided to make the driver my self using some basic components i got online. The main reason i'm doing this is because I have a large laser collection and i want to add one which i made my self.

False, high power laser diodes are only present in DVD writers, not readers. A reader has a power of no more than 10mW, while a writer can have up to 200mW depending on the speed and protocol.

I am extracting the diode from a DVD writer. If i said reader earlier it was a typo
