Hey guys,

If you were to spend around $3,000 on a new laptop meant for gaming, what is the most cost-effective computer out right now? (+/- $500)

I hear Alienware is a bad idea because they have expensive parts that only Dell makes.

I'm not too familiar with other brands of gaming laptops.

Also, I'll be wanting this to be able to run big games like Star Citizen (preferrably on the highest settings) perfectly.

Thanks,

Ankerr

Why laptop and not desktop out of curiosity?

mainly due to i wont be in one place for the next few years and lugging around a desktop would be terrible.

This would max your budget, but my thinking is it proofs you for 4k gaming, and editing for the next few years so as you move around you won't have to worry about upgrading. Linus actually did a video on it at CES.

4k screen too

Yeah I went with this for the 4k screen and and 1080 as 4k gaming is going to become mainstream I am sure within 12-24 months.

now if i order one without the 4k display but hook up a 4k monitor to it, could i still use the 4k feature?

Long as you use a display port 2 or higher cable then i assume yes as it would run off the 1080's

@Ankerr if you want people to know you've replied to them, you have to quote their post, or tag them as I did you.

Just keep in mind laptops are outdated far faster than desktops are, though that won't be as bad with a 1070 or 1080 mobile GPU. Get something that's easily upgradable, as some laptops do have graphics card modules that can be replaced.
