Hey!

When I play Overwatch, my GPU (GTX 960 4GB) suddenly hits the 90% - 100% usage, while CPU (i5 4460) sits at around 50% - 70%. I'm not sure if this is a bottleneck but if it is what's causing it? The CPU or GPU? Help is appreciated, thanks.

NOTE: Frames do not drop at all, they sit at a stable 100+ fps at 1080p High settings.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

It happens recently or was it all along like it?

Yea you're more than likely seeing a scenario where you are gpu bound. Which is better than being cpu bound.

So I'll need a new GPU? That's something I can't afford now

Games playing on high with over 100fps generally, just enjoy it.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

well that's pretty normal and nothing to worry. The only information you get out of this: your cpu does not bottleneck the gpu and that's what most people aim for (mostly because gpu has bigger impact on performance) and the game is more gpu bound than cpu bound. It also tells you that your cpu is capable to hold up against the gpu ;)

Yea but as soon as I start to record (I use NVENC) I start to see huge frame drops, around constant 40s

well no, why would you?

All that matters while gaming is to get the best settings for you and play at a smooth framerate. If that is in check, you don't need to upgrade your gpu (though a 960 is not the fastest thing on earth).

If you are happy with the performance of your rig while gaming, don't upgrade.

well nvenc is a gpu accelerated encoder, so it puts even more stress on the gpu/pushes the game calculations back. Why don't u try to record with shadow play/nvidia gamestream or what it is called now (via geforce experience). In my experience, this did not have a huge impact on the performance

or try another encoder that is cpu bound

Sounds normal. Performing as it should. Recording with a weak card will have those issues. Same can happen with any system really.
