Hey everyone, new to the forum but long time LTT follower, this is my first post and I don't usually use forums so please bare with me.

I am currently at the planning stages of a new gaming pc build and figured I could use some help and input on components and any other recommendations

All in all I have no taste for RGB or Glass side panel looks and would like a build that is minimal in aesthetic. Thinking a literal black box.

I would like to future proof myself as much as possible but bleeding edge tech is not a must

  • 1. Budget & Location
    • So budget wise i'm shooting for around $1500 USD, Savings would be nice, but i'm not worried to go over if it's worth it.
  • 2. Aim
    • Gaming is the Main Priority,
      • VR compatible would be nice
      • Streaming would be an added advantage of usage
    • This is also going to be my daily driver but i figure that a Gaming PC would be able to handle everyday tasks as well
  • 3. Monitors
    • Im using the LG 29UM57 currently [21:9, 2560x1080, 60Hz]
      • I dont plan on buying a new monitor at the moment but would like support for a 4K monitor for the future
  • 4. Peripherals
    • Windows
    • Keyboard / Mouse, Im partial to Logitech as it would match my headset but these things dont need to be considered into the total cost at the moment they can be staggered in over time
    • A WiFi / Bluetooth card would be nice as sometime the WiFi can come in handy and BT to connect an XB1 Controller on the rare occasion i want to use that instead of a KB/M combo
  • 5. Why are you upgrading?
    • The game plan is to convert over the current desktop to a family use home theater pc
      • No need for 4k as im waiting on 4k for media as a whole and im not buying a 4k tv anytime soon.
    • I am currently running a prebuilt model [no judgement its what i could get while i was in college] that has:
      • i7-4770 at 3.4GHz
      • 16 GB RAM
      • GForce GTX 645

Thank you all in advance for your help!

No I am not selling it, its going in another room for general usage and home theater usage

Well then I would go for this

This is going to be literal a very quiet black box

If you aren't intrested in OCing you could shave a few $$ off

Get an OS from reddit r/microsoftsoftawreswap for like $40 or kinguin

I think that power supply is kind of overkill.

Edit: you could probably get a lower wattage one with 80+ gold.

Your CPU is good enough that you could just stick a powerful GPU in there (1070 or 1080) along with an SSD and call it a day.

Edit: It's pre-built so you'll want a new PSU.

You should also look into applying those three upgrades (see my edit) and building a $500-600 computer for general use.  An i7-4770 isn't a general purpose CPU, so you'd just be wasting its potential.

Get the thermalright macho direct instead, $10 more but much better. The hynix sl308 is only slightly slower than the 850 evo but much cheaper.
