Will Windows 10 be Microsoft's last operating system?

dave4shmups

In 2015 I read that Microsoft said that Windows 10 will be their last OS, and that they'll just keep issuing updates for it.  Is this true?

Windows 10 is the last version. Instead, every year or so they will be releasing big updates like the anniversary update.

Darn.  I'd love it if they went to something like a Windows 7 type interface.  I could get a Windows 7 laptop, but I don't know how much it will cost to upgrade to Windows 10 in 2020, when support for 7 ends.

the same price it costs now. $119 for Home or $199 for Pro.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Yes it is the last release of Windows.

MS said that there will be no new releases/versions of Windows. This current version will be given free updates and upgrades as time goes on. Windows is a now an Official OS as a service. Honestly MS does not make much off of Windows OS sales [compares to Office and other software] any how that is why they have moved to this model.

Microsoft certainly said that, but I think the better question is how long they will actually stick to that plan. I think it's absurd for them to suggest they will never come up with a better business model than the one that they have right at this moment.
