2012 Macbook pro

So i have a 2012 macbook pro, and this thing runs like a beast.  I can run games like cs:go, terraria, dont starve and g-mod.  My parents hooked it up with a sandisk 480gb ssd a year back and the computer died, but I revived it somehow.  It's got 4gb of ddr3(L i think) ram and I was wondering how much longer this system could last before I need to upgrade to 6gb or 8gb of ram.  I usually have 10-15 tabs open and some background apps running (like spotify or youtube) and I think that's eating away at my ram's life.  Thanks!

do yourself a favor and pick up 8 or 16gb of DDR3 and call it a day

after I upgraded my old MBP 2011 to 8gb, it was a night and day difference

I'd just put 16 in it, 4GB is measly now a days. You can get a 16GB kit for around $60.

@hconverse02 8GB would be the sweet spot. I upgraded my laptop from 4GB to 8GB and the mid-loading of the map when racing at high speed in NFS:Rivals was nearly non existent.

Are you kidding me this thing utilizes every last drop of ram it can lol.  I might go for 1 8gb low voltage stick (don't think this old mobo can handle high powered ddr3 ram)

Also Apple says only 8gb is the max, so should I go with 8gb of ram on 1 stick for now and make sure I'm good until I go for 16gb?

Technically a DDR3 could work too what's your specs

Its a macbook pro so some old 2.5 ghz i5, a sandisk ssd, intel hd 4000 and 4gb of ram

Apple's 8GB Max is across 2 4GB modules. The reason this is a max, is because 8GB modules were not common place at the time of making the machine.

No, just get the single 8GB then and upgrade to 16 later.

ACcording to MBP site I linked it says configurable up to 8

That's weird as my macbook pro from 2008 came with 8gbs and I upgraded it to 16gbs.

@arnavvr @deXxterlab97 @Freezanator Thanks for the help.  I'll get 1 8gb stick and probably keep a 2gb stick in there for 10gb. I might upgrade to 16gb later or just make the 8gb/10gb last until I get a new laptop going into college (which is 3 years)
