Pc random freeze/lockup.

I'll be playing a game and it will lockup and I have to hard reset it. Idk what to do. Plz help. i7 6700k, 16gb ddr4, gtx 1070, z270 board.

Is something wrong with your cooling?

What are your storage devices (i.e. SSD, HDD, etc.) as I have had this issue due to dying drives.

Samsung 850 pro 256gb boot ssd. Wd black 1tb hdd. Both new.

Odd issue. Other than the information I've given you, there's not much more I can help with other than the assumption you have a dying drive.

Could be an OS problem. Hard to know without more information. Unfortunately, the best way to fix OS issues is to reinstall windows from scratch.

Is there a way to test a drive? I don't have another drive handy

Yes, there is. Move the game to the other drive and try giving that a go. If it stops the freezing it's a drive issue/bottleneck (dependent on the game).

 

Give that a go and let us know how you go.

I don't think it's an OS problem but not sure. I'd like to try a couple different things before I reinstall

Okay will do. And it's on everything. Sometimes I'll just close the steam window and it locks up

I had this issue also, Steam was located on my HDD (dying drive) and it would lock up randomly.

Should I install steam to my ssd too?

But it's not just steam that locks up. My whole pc locks up

I haven't had it yet but it takes a couple hours sometimes. And I don't think it's the hdd, cuz it froze on startup. It went to the msi screen and locked up

Then it doesn't sound like HDD failure, try reinstalling the OS.

My pc is now in a bootloop. I fixed it earlier by removing mb battery for a minute. What could that be??
