Hi guys,

I need some advice/help about choosing a graphics card for my system. I am trying to build a budget system for myself and all I need now is a graphics card. My budget is around 150 CAD and I asked on craigslist, if someone would sell me their graphics card for 100 CAD. I recieved 3 offers and I need some help choosing the best card for my "rig":

1. Mint condition gtx 750 ti zotac 2gb for 120 CAD. The card is still in the original box and sealed.

2. A used gtx 770 for 100-120 CAD. (Seller hasn't decided on exact price yet)

3. A used AMD Radeon 7870 for 100 CAD

As for the other specs of my build, I am using the following components:

-core i5 650

-8 GB ram (4×2GB sticks 1333Mhz)

-Older asus motherboard with PCIE 2.0

-500 Watt powersupply

-Case is standard ATX case size.

-500GB HDD

I hope that is enough information for now. Thank you very much for your help and advice.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Eric06

First off, let me say that buying a used, fast GPU is smart. Spending money on a new, but outdated GPU, is not smart.

Having said, that 7870 all the way, as it is the fastest among the 3 cards, good price, just make sure to test it and stress test it to make sure it can perform before handing out the cash

CPU: Ryzen 2 2700@ 4.0Ghz    Mobo: Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7 Wifi    Cooler: EVGA CLC 240    GPU: GTX1080 FTW DT @ 2113Mhz   PSU: EVGA 750W P2

Case: Fractal Design Meshify C   Displays: 34" LG34UC79G, 24" Dell

I'd go for the 770, its the fastest out of the 3 plus extra benefits like shadowplay.

The 7870 (rebranded as 270/x later on) is actually slower than the GTX 770. You may be thinking the 7970 perhaps? but even then the GTX 770 would be trading blows with the GHz edition.

@Eric06 At these prices, I would suggest the GTX 770

No I was just looking at GPU boss comparison between the 7870 and 770, maybe I was looking at something else

Try not to use sites like GPUBoss, as they don't really give you great comparisons. I would suggest something like anandtech's gpu benchmarks. They have categories for gpu 2016, 2015, 2014, and other benchmarks.

@Eric06 even with the reduced price, the GTX 770 is a better value.

Thanks a lot for your advice. Update: the 750 ti would be 100 CAD now. Seller reduced the price. Also the gtx 770 wasn't overclocked.

OC the 770 yourself and you have a card that is 2x faster compared to 750Ti

Alright guys thanks for your help. I really appreciate this.

If somebody offered me a new gtx 960 for 150CAD, would you take it instead of the gtx 770?

Unless you care about heat output (or if the 960 is a 4GB) it should perform roughly the same as the 770, and if I had to guess maybe a smidge faster in some instances.
