New Intel® Core™ i7 Processors :
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with vertical M Key design, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (Support PCIE SSD only)
Intel® X99 chipset :
1 x SATA Express port, , compatible with 2 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports
8 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), *3,
Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10
Supports Intel® Smart Response Technology, Intel® Rapid Recovery Technology*4
ASMedia® SATA Express controller : *5
1 x SATA Express port, , compatible with 2 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports

What does this tell you?

Again, it should work. I've seen youtube videos of X99-A booting with the 500GB 960 EVO, and an X99-A is a lower-end version of the X99-S so it should work.

Though I gotta say, M.2 SSD mounting in your motherboard is funny as hell, it's vertical :P

I want a new SSD for my OS, 250GB for games and software isn't really cutting it anymore.

I have two 850 EVO's, one for OS and one for games and software, and now I'm planning to RAID 0 the two for 500GB games/software and the new 960 EVO M.2 for OS.

Heard something about M.2's not working as OS drives, incorrect/correct?

AFAIK NVMe M.2 drives (such as 960 EVO) require a motherboard that supports booting off an NVMe device. Make sure your motherboard supports it as you plan on buying the 960 EVO.

And no, the statement is not correct cause those cheaper M.2 drives are just regular SATA III interface devices within the M.2 form factor and they work the same as regular SATA III 2,5" drives.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

This clear things up! I have the X99-s, I'll have a look!

Should work, the motherboard is fairly high-end and it does support PCI-E 3.0 x4 in the M.2 slot. You should be fine.

I KNOW RIGHT?

I was looking at doing that before when I was more of a newbie to PC's and went like "Nah that can't be right, all the videos show them put neatly to the motherboard."

Atm I use a Noctua D14 as well, so it'll be fun to see if it blocks the slot even :D

But I'll take your word for it that it works ;) Thanks

If a 960 PRO works on an X99-A then a 960 EVO should work on an X99-S :P
