"Network Cable Unplugged"

Go to solution Solved by 3EP,

Hi all,

So I've had this persisting problem for almost a week now and I'm getting to the end of my patience with it. About a week and half ago everything was completely fine. I would start my computer up when I needed it and it would connect to the internet right away and off I would go. But now when I start my computer, it gets to the desktop and the ethernet symbol has the red X on it. When I go into the "network connections" tab in my windows settings it says "Network cable unplugged" when it clearly is not and it switches between that and identifying for a brief few seconds every now and then. Over the course of the last week it seemed that after a while it would just connect and my internet would run slower than normal but it would connect none the less. So then today it's doing it again but just won't connect.

I've reset my piece of garbage Comcast modem/router combo unit 2 times already.

Put a new end piece connector on my ethernet cord.

Restarted my PC.

Tried disabling my ethernet driver and then reenabling it.

Reinstalled my ethernet drivers. (At least I think it reset them)

Hit my head against the wall.

And I still can't seem to get it to work.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I haven't tried using a completely different ethernet cable so I'll try that.

Do you have any other routers that you can test to see if it is your pc or not?

Sadly no. Sometime soon I hope to get a nice router and just set my Comcast modem thing into bridge mode and forget about it.

I was going to suggest a new cable (you beat me to it) I've had similar issues in the past with Ethernet cables being damaged.

Fixed. Step 3 in that guide was to replace the cable. I had a brand new one that I used and it instantly connected. I guess my self made ethernet cable wasn't the best. Darn.

Thanks for your help!
