Okay, so for the past few days I've been having problems with my WiFi. Whenever I try to download a large file (over say 50mb) then after a minute or so, the internet speed will drop to 16Kbps (according to task manager), stay at that speed for a few seconds, then disconnect. After reconnecting, the same thing happens. This happens when I connect to both my router's built in WiFi and my Draytek AP, but doesn't happen when I connect to another WiFi network.

Anybody have any ideas how I could troubleshoot this?

Is the Internet disconnecting or is your device disconnecting from the Wireless?

If you internet is disconnecting then you have several options. Most cable and DSL modems have a diagnostic page. I dont know how to read the DSL info. But if you have cable internet then the modem has to operate at a certain spec. If it gets out of that spec then it could cause a disconnection.

If its the WiFI, then my only guess is maybe interference from something new. Because it sounds like this a problem that just sorta cropped up out of no where. You might use WiFi analyzer if you have an Android Phone and check you airways to see if you have another network running on the same channels you are using.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I figured out what the problem was. After reading the TalkTalk forums (my ISP) i found out that the router that they supply is an absolute piece of... well, you know.

Everybody else who has the router has been reporting the same problem, and it has been going on for over 6 months now and they've done nothing about it.

I took my Draytek AP that I have upstairs and replaced the TalkTalk provided unit with it since it supports VDSL, and have had no problems since. And the range on the Draytek unit is far superior so I don't even need the second AP upstairs
