Hmm, Well two things I am thinking.  Number 1 the 450 Watt PSU that was some 9 years old was probably not sufficient to power that RX480.  PSU's degrade after a period of time and usage.  So It make sense that right after you put your new card in your PC that it would not hold up to the stress of the power requirements and would fail resulting in your computer shutting off.

Second thing I am thinking is that it is possible that the older psu may have damaged the motherboard when it shut off.  When you hooked up the second PSU it may have been able to overcome the short that was created by the first PSU by providing more power, until the motherboard failed all together.

This could have happened on both Motherboards, so If I was in your shoes I would think about replacing both the PSU and motherboard.  I used a PSU calculator given your specs it goes very close to if not over 500 watts.

You are saying, 500 w is not enough ?

I understand, my old psu might have killed my mobo, but what about my old mobo, i never installed GFX on that.

Also why is my system dying, when it is idling and not when i am gaming, when resources are at their peak usage.

Its possible it may not have died.  But if you tried the PSU on both and neither one is booting the PSU that was bad could have still damaged it regardless if the GPU was installed or not.  You could theoretically try a new PSU first if that doesnt work you may need to get a new motherboard also.

Just think of it this way.. If you have a power source that is powering something and that power source has a short in it, it wont regulate the power correctly cause damage to what ever it is plugged into.

This is just my opinion.. I wouldn't want you to spend money on something you don't need to.. But I also wouldn't want you to plug in a new motherboard into a PSU that was damaged and risk ruining it also... just something to think about.

So i need to replace the PSU that is for sure. Should i try the newer PSU with my old motherboard or not. ?

I took the mobo out kept it on its box, with cpu and RAM plugged in, doesnt turn on.

Does the CPU fan gently spin at all when you try to turn the system on?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

it did for like half a second in the beginning, after repeated tries it doesn't anymore.

Sounds like a dead board or CPU, my guess both.

If your motherboard is relatively new you can try to RMA it and save money if it is still in warranty.  As I stated earlier if you had no problems before you added a new graphics card, and used the same parts given that old PSU and it being 450 it probably died and possibly took your motherboard(s) with it.

Yes shall try this.

No i used old PSU with both motherboards - didn't boot.
Replaced PSU.
Used new PSU with both motherboards - worked.
Now again Old and new PSU doesn't work with both Motherboards.

Also connected the green wire pin in 24pin cable to the black pin to check if the PSU is alive. Same issue , fan rotates for some 15 degrees and dead.

try to clear your cmos

Have returned the PSU , waiting for a replacement. Shall go for a 550w this time. if this PSU dies as well, then the Mobo is a goner.

Sorry for disappearing, I had work this weekend.

After we tried the second MB with your PSU pretty much confirmed the PSU was dead.

Sometimes, when a PSU goes bad, it'll short and take out some other components depending on how the PSU died. So hopefully the MB is ok. I'd wait until you get the new PSU and test it before going through RMA. If they test it, they will send it right back to you if it works. The other option would be to go to a PC shop and have them put in a PSU and test to see if it turns on. If yes, awesome, if not, something else is damaged or not connected properly. MB, CPU,RAM, GPU. Any of those could potentially get damaged

I am getting a new PSU this weekend, going for 600w, to remove the wattage deficiency doubt as 450 and 500 died. If that PSU dies, i will RMA the MB
