What are you trying to do, you can often just convert a molex if you aren't pushing the gpu very hard.

there's only 3 scenarios in terms of power supplies:

- it can provide the power necessary and it works to the fullest.

- it cant provide the power necessary, and it doesnt work at all.

- it is a chinese piece of garbage and catches fire.

I cannot use the current psu which is only a 400w old one unless you guys think it might be enough? 125w cpu pulling 140w overclocked, 2 hardrives, 2 120mm fans and 4 sticks of ram running 2.0v.

if you don't put it under load it will be fine, but you should buy a better psu.

it an old pc im giving to family for gaming but without the gpu. I just want to have a bit of fun first. I did a psu calc and underload it will pull 380w reccomends 430w psu. Have you heard of a psu blowing up a gpu before? i dont care if it destroys the pc tbh but dont want it ruining the gpu.

Unlikey, but some psu's fail that way. I wouldn't risk it with a 980ti.

Most psu's will shut off when there is too much current pulled due to there inability to keep the voltage at spec. Most will just cut power.

If your unlikey if will go with a boom, but very unlikey. On a well engineered psu, the mains and the DC is fully isolated, and any error will cut power. Cheap psu's will often skip on safety measures.

It is a very old gray one i would say 10years old + branded as "ISO switching powersupply" model number ISO-500PP max output 420W which is more than i thought. Is very loud and the fan runs at what sounds like 100% constantly.
