His birthday is this month and i'm thinking of buying him a gtx 1060 or a gtx 1050, Right now he's running a gt 730.

How much of a performance boost would he get from this?

Alot, figure out the CPU first. If its decent ish try to go with the 1060 or 1050ti.

Off the shelf at staples. I needed a render slave for school, and i got fed up with my computer being unable to do RT in UE4 in anything higher than 4k. God my images were crap because i couldn't build my lighting.
