AMD information

Hey guys,

So, I'm working on a little project and the idea is to keep it cheap, feature filled, and play BF4 better than on consoles...next gen to be exact. BF4 is horrible on current gen, to be honest...that's another thread though.

Here's my dilemma..I literally know nothing about AMD other than it's the "cheap" counterpart to intel. I understand some chips are APUs and some are straight CPUs, but how do I tell the difference?

I basically need a "for dummies" guide for AMD as I think I will have a bit more flexibility with my budget and features going that route. I have specced out an intel machine that would be worth a crap and it's still around 1k worth in hardware.

Any help would be appreciated and thought I'd try here before I tread the depths of google looking for answers.

Thanks!

Lewis

A bit of info on the only relevant amd cpus in your case:

AM3+

6300: 6 core cpu. One of the best value cpus for gaming. Can be oc'ed a fair bit. The higher clocked 6350 is often not worth the extra money. The 4300 is a 4 core version that often costs about the same.

8320: 8 cores. Great for gaming. Basically lower clocked 8350 that tends to not oc as far.

8350: Basically more expensive version of the 8320 that's only worth getting if you want to push high overclocks or need the cpu power. Not necessary over the 8320 for gaming. Rarely worth the extra money over the 8320.

FM2

750K: 4 core. Good enough for gaming. Can be oc'ed a fair bit. Great when paired up with a 7950. It might hold back any more powerful gpus.

760K: Higher clocked version of 750K that oc's a bit more. For some reason, it's often cheaper than the 750K on amazon.

General idea is that amd ha weaker cores than intel but they have more. The cores are fast enough for gaming so it's preferred to get more of those cores instead of just faster cores when it comes to gaming.

Just my 2 cents.

it will help a lot if you tell us if you plan build a Gaming PC ?

and how much cash do you plan use on the project ?

and we can help you to do a good build for BF4 (on min/med/max depending of your budget)
