Which means you checked the temperatures right before you added the fan? Maybe the placement of the exhaust fan is somehow disturbing the "currents" in the case.

Yes, i was using the computer right before I changed it, it was a steady 74-75. The next day it was 77.

What was fan setup before that? Did room temp change between days? Same game, same situation? Tbh 3C raise is marginal and you would need to test it few more times for consistent readings.
