Hey everyone.

I'm finally doing an upgrade after a long time and I would like some advice and opinions from you guys.

I would build it around i5 7600k and z270 MB, and I already have:

What bothers me are :
1)

How to pick a Mb?

What would be the differences between STRIX Z270-E and Prime Z270 for example?
Could you recommend any other perhaps?

2)

Which RAM speeds should I aim for? 3000/3200?

3)

Are m2 drives worth it?

4)

Would you rather go for Corsair h100i or something like Noctua D15?

Thanks in advance!

1, Hello and welcome to the forums! here all us pc geeks masteracers and nerds same thing... will answer and help you with anything. So the difference between the mobos you listed are the more exspensive one has more pcie lanes so you can have 3 gpus instead of 2 on the other one, then the asus rog has rgb lightning and 2x m.2 drive slots but they cost a lot rn and in my opinion getting a big ssd is better and im sure many will agree for the price and such... then 2, ram speeds dont matter that much, a 2400 vs 3200 would either be nothing at all or negative in performance dont pay overprice for faster not really worth it. then m.2 drives as i written not really worth it, 4. A watercooler always have the potential of water leaking, if the pump fails then... and might be louder then the noctua d15, so i would recommend the awesome air cooler its pretty quiet and very good for overcloking too. :) hope i helped a little ill be on the forums too help so give me a shout.

1) The biggest factor is what your budget is, but there are other things that contribute such as whether you need sli or crossfire, etc. Usually though some mobos are better than others at certain price points and you just pick those.

2) RAM speeds doesn't matter that much, but you might as well go for 3000 MHz since it's not much more expensive and can sometimes help performance a little.

3) No, unless you do professional stuff like video editing. For OS, games, and loading up apps, they are barely any faster than sata drives that cost half the price.

4) If you care about looks, go with an AIO. Otherwise, noctua all the way. It performs as good as the best AIOs while being much quieter but it is a bit ugly.

The mobo often dont different much from each other as long as they have the same chipset. What's different is usually the sound/audio process they use, number of SATA slot/M.2 Slot available, number of PCI-e 16x slot (note that the majority of cheaper board while technically have 2 x16 PCI-E slot, only 1 of them can run x16 at any given time and not at the same time, so they cant run SLI but can run crossfire.) Just choose one fit your budget and have all the thing you need.

Technically higher is better, but in all honesty you wont notice the different unless you run something that swap data in and out of Ram constantly and actually doing benchmark on it.

If you really really need your OS and whatever games you may install on it to load faster, yes. Otherwise... same case as RAM, you probably wont notice the different unless you put them side by side.

I had a H100i before, the stock fan was horrible but once I change it with some Noctua fan it run completely silent and perform really well. An aircooler is fine as long as you dont overclock your CPU to high hell, in which case you will need an AIO cooler.

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

All depends on how much are you going to push, if you actually overclock.

My fav. choice when it comes to overclock would be Asrock, namely oc-formula or the Fatal1ty Gaming K6 series.

Then if you do want to push the limits its obviously recommended to get a high rated memory.

Another thing is, the AIO watercooling is all nice and good but doesn't mean a very good air cooler wont be better.

A AIO watercooling always have some noise even if it's from the pump...

The Strix board only supports 3 way crossfire and 2 way sli.

Ram speeds do matter on Skylake/Kaby Lake. A 3000MHz - 3200MHz kit is the way to go if getting a Z170/Z270 board.

An M.2 SSD would be worth it depending on what the op is doing with the pc.
