Black screen after driver update issue

Just updating my brothers drivers on his pc(1080) and it was doing the usual screen on off thing all driver updates do but now the screen has stayed black for 15 mins, never had this but weird thing is the mouse is on the screen still and can be moved around... help

CPU: Intel I5 4690K | GPU: Asus R9 280x | PSU: Evga 600w | RAM:8GB DDR3 | HDD: WD 1TB | HDD: WD 500GB | SSD: Sandisk 120GB

And it just fixed itself... rebooted 2 or 3 times went into bios did nothing came out and its fixed
