Will ryzen have a 4core 8thread CPU?

Never tried AMD, never seen a reason to as they haven't been competitive  for -years-.

The last few gens from AMD have been hyped up by AMD fans only to -again- disappoint, but many more people then usual are talking about Ryzen CPU's, and some apparent leaked benchmarks showed AMD's '10' GPU keeping up with a Titan XP.

So that said, in a couple of months when all of AMD's new stuff is released , realistically will it be competive? I'd want to try an AMD build, but i'd want a 4core 8thread processor... so, does anyone know if AMD plan to do this? A 50000000000000000000000000000000 core processor with 900000000000000000000000000000000000 threads doesn't really interest me when it's beaten in gaming by a fucking hyper threaded pentium..

On a serious note, most likely, i believe there was some specs leaked an a 4core/8thread was one of them.

But there was some rumors that there would be a 4 core 8 thread Ryzen CPU.

The only confirmed(-ish) Ryzen CPU was that 8 core 16 thread one. There was a rumored 4 core 4 threads and 4 core 8 threads one I think though. Also a rumored 6 core, but that wouldn't make sense.

I think it would be silly for AMD not to release a 4-core CPU (half the die enabled) with SMT. But we don't have confirmation and I wouldn't put it past it AMD to do silly things (like put 32 ROPs only on Polaris 10, I'll never forget that one AMD).

Agreed, they have made some poor choices. Especially the entire FX line..

Yes and I think just a good performing uarch in the form of Zen is not going to be enough to keep them afloat and growing. They gotta back that up with good business and engineering decisions so that they keep advancing the technology. Being competitive or close in terms of performance won't be enough in the long run.

 

Of course if they start getting more R&D money they should have no problem keeping up as they ramp up their engineer and marketing team.
