New to LTT, Hello to all.

Basically, I got an almost free PC from a government contractor who scammed the department saying HIGH-END PC's surplus. it cost me ~$150 (10,000 INR).It's barebones, but I have salvaged parts from previous builds to make it functional.

  • Specs:
  • FX-9370 (Contractor)
  • Gigabyte 990 FXA-UD3 R5 (Contractor)
  • Antec Tru power trio 650W (Contractor)
  • cooler master Seidon 120v (Contractor)
  • 1 Seagate HDD 500GB (Contractor)
  • Faulty GPU GTX 780 reference[probably why it was rejected](Replaced with old GT-610 I had laying around)
  • Generic case(Replaced with Corsair Carbide 100r I had Laying around)

I know that the cooling is inadequate and I need an upgrade. I have lurked old forums but no definitive answer. Only people bashing other people choices.

Selling it is not an option, parents wouldn't allow it, they bought it(underage). I have to keep it.

I know it is not the best, but it is the one I have. I mostly use it for web browsing, may consider playing Skyrim on it rather than my laptop(My daily driver).

Bottom line.

Give me recommendations for a cooler upgrade as the 120v (Stock) gives me ups of 80C in tests. (currently underclocked to 3.5Ghz to keep the heat down)

Do I even NEED one or just let it chug along? (It is the most powerful desktop in my house, the laptop is more efficient but uncomfortable)

P.S.

I don't have much of a choice with the build but at that price, it was a literal steal. Don't say that FX9000s are underpowered(I know they are). No option to sell even if I wanted, the guy couldn't find a buyer to save his life in this non-techy town. (Will probably hand it down 2-3 years down the line.)

Thanks.

Not underpowered, just shitty single core performance ;)

Anyway, what's your budget as we can't really help without one...

Erm, I'm sure a fifth of what that system cost his parents counts as cheap :P

My budget is pretty flexible I am willing to shell out *Cough*Convince parents*Cough* for maybe another 10000 INR. as our original budget was around 25000 INR. Due to the Indian system, tech goodies are highly taxed and a 240mm AIO cost roughly the amount I paid for the PC. The market value of my current build with salvaged parts is around 50000 INR.

So I am willing to pay some more for stock-like performance.
