I have a i5 6600k overclocked to 4.3 gigahertz at 1.25 volts, 16 gigs ddr4 2800, msi z170 gaming m5, and a asus gtx 1080 strix and i am getting what i think are oddly low fps in a few games, mainly fallout 4, skyrim, gta 5, and battlefield 1. in gta i am getting from 40 to 80 in fallout about the same in skyrim its locked at 60 but sometimes drops to 50 and in battlefield i never go above 100. all games in 1080p high or maxed settings

Skyrim cant go above 60, try going to 1440p if you have a 1440p monitor.

i am pretty sure that I have heard about strix gpus dying faster, not sure though

which is one of the many things people who dont like asus like to say with zero experience to back that up.

cpu usige is 100%

there's your problem.

what is your cpu usage like in an "idle state"?

(idle state being what is also running when you're gaming, besides the game itself, putting open a chrome window with some music can help bringing out audio driver issues as well.)

please dont be rude

wasnt meant as being rude to the guy, it's just that there's a lot of people spreading horrible information about strix'es, and the guy appareantly had the wrong sources influence him.

idle it is at 0 to 10 and very very rarely bounces to 30

that is quite steep in terms of cpu usage, even in *my* idle case (which is on the extreme side, i'm a resource hog :D) its usually below that.

here's some things to look at:

- cpu usage of background programs (rainmeter is one people often forget in this regard, if you're into rainmeter :D)

- do you have an antivirus doing tasks in the background?

- maybe there's windows services doing things that take up resources (pretty known flaw in windows 10 :D)

Seems odd to me, Skyrim SE with mods @ 1440P runs at 60FPS constantly on my system using a 1080 (Palit gamerock premium). Only difference really is my CPU been an i7 @ 4.7ghz. GTAV runs around 60 - 80 ultra + 1440P. Funnily enough (skyrim aside) theyre all CPU threaded games and we see a lot of people getting bottlenecked 1080s on i5/1080P systems. The fact your CPU usage is 100% sort of backs this up, it's also why I get kind of narky when I recommend i7's for people building new rigs and people pipe up saying "i7 is overkill for gaiming just get an i5)

Ye I would, 1440P would allow you to utilise more of your GPU's power without taxing the CPU as much as it currently does in 1080P

yeah but i didnt have a monitor and i didnt have enough cash to get a 1440p

I always had 1080P, I took the 1440P gsync plunge last February and very glad I did, it feels like a big outlay, but when you think a monitor lasts years in comparison to a GPU its kinda worth it
