IIRC in Flux there should be an option to disable flux while gaming.

hmm there is  a safe mode, which nice, but normally f.lux disables itself whe im running game in full screen.

with safe mode it will let me play without studder (apparently f.lux is known to fuck with freesync). but the screen is all orange in the game :/ , the gpu shuts off issue is still there i guess the 450 watt psu cannot compensate the power spike that sometimes needed by my gpu. i already place an order for 600 watt psu (corsair sfx 80 gold) and see if the issue presists (which i hope not).

this buid is really quie a pain in the ass, with all its limitation and whatnot. but it gives me the confidence to put a computer together. (at first i was afraid to touch a motherboard in fear of destroying it. but now ive already rebuilding this system 3 times :D and. the cable management is getting better and better)

i will report the psu change result

PSU change did nothing. i RMA the xfx gtr black. and got MSI rx480 gaming x

now the pc runs fine. so much for nothing

Hello linus tech tips forum,

im resorting to you guys for help,  i have a new build computer

CPU : i7 6700

mobo : MSI h170i pro AC mini itx

GPU : xfx rx 480 gtr balck edition

PSU : corsair SF 450 sfx power supply

Display : HP pavilion 32 (48-75hz freesync) 1440p display

case: node 202 fractal design

strangely when i installed the first gpu in (rx480 RS,. i bought the wrong card), it wines badly with electrical buzzing noise, and so does the second one that i RMA (RX 480 GTR), this third one  also whine, but really slightly, not as bad as the other two.(it whines ONLY when playing games or demanding program)

so there are couple of problem.

1. my gpu is studdering badly on firewatch, only on firewatch , i played ABZU and heroes of the storm quite frequently and its fine. (going to test with witcher soon)

2. while playing abzu with the freeync on , suddenly the diplay lost input signal. (replugging does not seem to solve the problem) and i dont hear the sound of device unplugged (normally windwos 10 does this when i unplug the displayport.)

is it a shoddy PSU or is it a driver issue  ?  im tired of trying to solve this annoying problem.

i can provide video and photos to help with diagnosis.

thank you for ther kind reply,  the gpu stayed on 74 c.

the lag on firewatch can be mitigated by switching to windoed mode, which is weird.

Window mode helps because it takes away exclusive access to the GPU.

Meaning you don't get the GPU's full usage, either from clocks, memory or just timings.

This would turn into a bigger problem in some games.
If you want to use freesync, g-sync, some tessellation, Physx, change gamma, change the brightness and a few other things.

It's not a race to the bottom.

i see, thank you for the kind reply,

im not wrong running to linus techtips forum for this problem. so here goes, the problem are solved.

it seems f.lux (app to make the screen orange at night ) fucks everything over.   all games runs smooth now, let see if the problem with gpu turning off by itself also solved.
