I'm a new hand at this, but here are my hypothetical parts for the build. It'll be intended for 1080p gaming at high/ultra settings on most titles. The most important thing is for the build to be able to run No Man's Sky or similar games at 50 or 60 fps.

CPU - i5-6600K

GPU - GTX 1060 from EVGA

RAM - 2x4GB  DDR4 @ 3200 mhz (I think? Here's the link https://www.amazon.com/Ballistix-Elite-PC4-25600-288-Pin-Memory/dp/B01H3P9BY0/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1485457430&sr=1-5&keywords=DDR4%2BRAM&th=1)

Motherboard - Gigabyte LGA1151

Power Supply - EVGA 500 W1 (rated at 500 watts)

Case - Roswell Micro ATX

Cooler - DeepCool CPU Cooler (This is the bit I'm most uncertain about. Not sure how to pick a cooler...)

Keyboard - AULA SI-859 (cheapest one on Amazon. Not mechanical, but that's not important to me.)

Mouse - Redragon M601 (again, cheapest on Amazon. I'm not a competitive gamer, so I don't need anything too fancy)

Headset - HyperX CloudStinger (Audio is important to me, and the reviews on this one looked pretty good.)

I already have a 1080p Acer monitor with a DVI connector that I plan on using. In future, I WILL want to upgrade to two or three monitors for productivity, although I'll still be using just one for gaming.

Overall, these parts come out to about 800 USD, with 500 of that being devoted in equal portions to CPU and GPU. I'm willing to work within the 800 USD, but would prefer not to go over that.

My questions are these: Are there any bottlenecks or glaring problems with this build? Is this an overly complex build for a first-timer?  Are there better parts I should be looking at for the same cost? Is a micro-ATX case too small?

Any help would be appreciated!

Is a board for a Kaby Lake more expensive? The board I'm looking at says it supports 6th gen, but nothing about 7th. Will a Kaby Lake processor work?

The 6 gb model. I specifically want to be able to run Overwatch on high settings at 1080p. I'd like to also be able to run titles like Battlefield 1, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky, and Resident Evil 7, but if I need to drop settings to medium or even low for those, that's fine.

they are similar or just a bit more... the difference between z170 and z270 are pcie lanes (20x vs 24x) and intel octane technology.yes because they have the same socket so if you get a z170, you shouldnt have any troubles... but you will need to update your bios later. (also quote people or they will not see your answers))

i recommend now more to get a rx 480 8gb, so is eating gtx 1060 on every update

Thanks for the tip! I've heard that AMD cards tend to run a little hot, which causes some problems with thermals if your cooler isn't up to the task. Will that be a problem with the RX 480? Thanks for the info on the CPU, too. I have flashed a bios before, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
