new CPU for recently built PC?

Go to solution Solved by Fluffy Bunny,

the one big reason is for games that are CPU intensive, the CPU drops the fps to 40ish, i used to have a 6700k in another PC and its a lot more reliable, or if i would just get that fps up, is there a cpu that isnt as powerful but could last me long and fix that?

I recently built a PC in August 2016,

Here are my specs:

Intel Core i5 6600 3.3 GHz turbo boost to 3.9, quad core

MSI Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070

16 gig G.Skill 2800 MHz DDR4

ASUS Z-170A

NZXT H440

I'm interested in replacing my CPU with An I7 6700k and Corsair air 540 case, my question is would it be worth it to upgrade my CPU if i built my PC recently, and is a 6700k a good combination for my specs?

why do you want a 6700k?

planning on something like video production or streaming that would benefit from those extra threads?

if not, don't waste your money

Need more information on your day to day tasks, can't really tell you anything if we don't know what you do with your PC, if it's just gaming then stick with your i5. Anything more intensive and could really benefit from it then I'd hold out until zen drops and cross your fingers that cpu prices drop.

I use my pc for games like witcher 3 and overwatch DOOM, etc. the reason i want to uprade is because the i5 doesnt pull its weight, im also intreasted in OC'ing

what do you mean by "doesn't pull it's weight"?

also keep in mind that an overclockable CPU requires an aftermarket cooler, which adds more cost to this upgrade

I'd wait to see what RyZen has to offer, which will hopefully push down Intel's pricing
