I used GOG for the first time yesterday, i bought and installed Shadow Warrior 2. It's supposed to be DRM-Free, i can play the game without needing any client in the background. They advertise their DRM-Free policy as "You buy it, it's yours", so i was wondering, can i copy the game into a USB and lend the game to a friend? And not that i would something like this, but what's stopping people from copying the game and give it to all their friends for free?

In the case you can't even lend the game to a friend via USB, then what's the point of it being DRM-Free? Hypothetically, if GOG goes out of business, i will loose my game since i will need their client to download the game.

I would appreciate it if someone clear things up for me.

The point of it being DRM free is the game doesn't have anything to actively prevent piracy. It does not mean you're allowed to freely distribute the game.

For the most part, that's what most people want. The percentage of people who pirate because they're cheapasses no matter what are tiny.

Edit: To put it in another way, DRM free does not mean the software is free as in freedom.

Well, sure, I guess if you made no effort to back it up at all. :P Just save your installer files and the game is yours for as long as your storage medium still works.

Normally the concern with a DRM service like Steam going out of business is that you have to contact their servers to play the game. If the servers stop running, your game won't work anymore, no matter what files you kept. Steam has an offline play mode, but it still locks your games after something like 30 days without logging in to Valve's servers.
