Looking for 5TB+ storage solution; budget of £200 GBP/$247.60 USD

Hello. I am looking to buy an internal hard drive of five or more terabytes. I'm not concerned about whether it's a solid state drive or not, I'm expecting it to be a hard disk. The important thing for me is that the hard disk is reliable, long lasting and doesn't take 'too long' to read or write. I'm currently using an M.2 SSD for System C: (and applications) and are using a "WD2002FAEX" (2TB WD WD2002FAEX Caviar Black, SATA 6Gb/s, 7200rpm, 64MB Cache) for Data D:. I'm looking to replace my current hard disk completely with a larger one of similar performance and do something else with the Western Digital HDD currently in my system.

 

I have been looking at the Seagate ST5000DM000 5TB 5900RPM SATA III 6Gb/s Hard Drive 128MB, but it's had bad reviews for perfomance. I have room in my case to string together five 1TB HDDs in RAID-1, or I might do three 2TB HDDs in RAID-1, but I would much rather the 5TB be crammed into the same internal drive so that in future I may buy more of them and make it into RAID-5, with so much space that I'd never need to buy storage drives again!

 

I'll be using this as mass storage for the end result of rendering. Any help is much appreciated!

Edit: you're in the UK. Prices aren't as good for massive HDDs in the UK.

The HGST Deskstar goes up to 8TB, are you sure this is in all 1 Hard Disk form factor?

Yup

There are hard drives up to something insane like 10TB, on a single 3.5" enclosure.

That's amazing! I don't know why, I thought there was only one single internal hard disk that reached 5GB.

A couple years ago that was true, not so much anymore
