Nope, $300 isn't enough for a decent CPU, motherboard, RAM, PSU and storage. Sell the GTX 980s... $200 each is realistic. So let's say you're working with a $700 budget for all the things you need including the GPU.

Cool but SLI is a pain in the arse to work with, coming from personal experience. Better off selling them and getting a single card, whether it be a RX 480, GTX 1060 or GTX 1070.

Stretch that budget to $500-600... that would the ideal amount.

Not a bad idea but an i5 7600K would barely be an upgrade for you. The i7 7700K, on the other hand, will be. But seeing how you need close to $500 just for a i7 7700K and Z270 motherboard, it's going to be a more costly investment (but Microcenter should give you a good deal). And you need to factor in the cost for a new CPU cooler for your daughter's PC.

Alright, that's sorted out. $300 is a perfect amount for the rest of the parts (RAM, storage and power supply). But you still need to spend a good amount just for the parts for your own build.

i would offer 190 for that, then it leaves you 110 to play with - if you could up your budget to 350 or 400 you could get a nice build
