Need some help please again

So I made a post awhile back pertaining to my crap fps in games compared to my friends. His pc is similar to mine except he has an ssd and more ram. Most of the responses I got told me to upgrade my power supply and ram. I upgraded my power supply today with an EVGA G3 850w. Well my fps didnt go up and it seems that it wasnt my parts not getting enough power. Or maybe they aren't? I wanted to ask any one that uses the Asus bios similiar to the one on the Z170-A (Im not sure if they are all the same but i think they are depending on the drivers ver.) Im just not good with stuff in the Bios so I need some help. The games we played were warframe and warface (He just got his pc so he hasnt bought any.) Im even seeing poor performance in games I should play flawlessly like mass effect 2. So I have my bios settings at defualt, anything i should have changed? Is it really the ram if the games arent using all of it?

 

Check my other post if you want more answers but I stated that temps were fine and such.

 

My spec:

i7 6700k

EVGA 1070 SC

8gb corsair vengeance ram

Asus z170-A mobo

EVGA G3 850w psu

1TB HDD

 

His specs:

Same CPU

Same GPU

32gb corsair vengeance ram

Some atx gigabyte board

Carsair 750w

1TB Ssd

 

Help please. I may be able to get ram soon so I'll repost if that was the issue afterall.

The ssd won't make a difference in fps, good call upgrading psu, the other one was kinda sketchy.  Ram looks like and issue and is probably bottlenecking your gpu (I think your gpu and your system have the same amount of ram, which is not a good thing).  Getting more (16gb should do) will likely help.

Just making sure but you installed the GPU drivers right? Also why don't you check if you're nearing the max ram while gaming. Also, see if you can borrow 16 gb ram from your friend temporarily or something and see if that improves things at all.

Having the same amount of ram as vram is a bad thing? I didnt know tbh

Not necessarily. It won't be a direct cause of issues but rather an indicator. Usually if you have a balanced system you'll have more ram than vram.

I'd rather not mess with his system. My ram does get to 70-80% because windows 10 takes about 3.7gb.

The first place to look for is thermals and clockspeeds. See what those are and also what GPU utilization is like while you play the games.

Then check for a bad driver install: uninstall them using DDU, then install them again and omit the geforce experience app as it's been known to cause issues left and right.

8GB RAM is not what's causing this frame drop.

It's not. 8GB RAM is still enough for every game that's out today (assuming you don't have a million chrome tabs open at the same time).

And you have installed your GPU drivers and you have 64 bit windows? Why don't you install Valley Benchmark and Cinebench and check what the scores are. That way we can tell if the CPU or GPU are slower than they should be.

Just ask him if he has some extra ram you can borrow.  Preferably 16gb of the same brand and kind.  Or just buy another set of ram to double yours but if thats not it you spent money on something you didn't need.

Usually a balanced system has more ram than vram.

If the problem ends up being OP installed 32-bit Windows, that would be funny. Not sure why Microsoft still offers 32-bit versions of their OS. Are they lighter?

No idea lol. If you're trying to run Windows 10 on a 32 bit CPU you'd probably have bigger problems than windows compatibility to worry about.

I have 64-bit windows 10 and my gpu drivers are the latest. Are those benchmarks free? The only one I have is realbench.

They are free.

 

You should still wipe and reinstall the latest drivers. It might even be prudent to try your luck with an older driver version.

Alright I ran Cinebench. OpenGL got 102.91 fps and the CPU got 882cb.

Ok that CPU score is normal. Try Valley on the GPU now to check that.

That seems about right. Most likely your ram is causing some issues then. I still suggest that I don't you can ask your friend to borrow 16 gb ram and see if the issues go away though. That would probably help narrow it down.

Ill ask but his ram is vengeance like mine but is different in speeds and looks so. Plus Im sure one stick has 16gb for him. My scores are close to others on extreme HD as well. Im hoping that the ram is the issue here.

In that case you could just swap out your 8gb for 16gb temporarily to check. I'm guessing it's ram but I can't be sure and I don't want you to pay for something that isn't even the problem!

Yea im a college student but i love my games that keep me sane lol. If my Ram is the issue 55 bucks isnt much and I could probably do that next week or so. Thanks for the help and telling me about the free benchmarks!
