The Abomination

This is the computer I use daily, as it is now. I wish I had logged all the changes it has gone through over the few years I've had it but unfortunately I never did. Oh well Here it is, The Abomination. (I will update with DSLR pics over the crappy phone ones if anyone's interested)

 

First , the specs:

 

i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz

MSI P67A-C43

Thermaltake FRIO tower cooler

Silverstone Strider Essential 700w

Auzentech Xi-Fi Forte pcie sound card

2x 4Ggb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

2x 128gb Vertex 4 in RAID0

2x 1tb 5400rpm Toshiba laptop drives in RAID5 (cheaper than desktop drives where I got them)

Beige case that my school was throwing away

Gigabyte 7950 Windforce

XFX 6870 reference (pcie 1x extension)

 

Obviously not a normal computer.

The GPU is actually duct taped to the box for added mounting rigidity, when it's installed the box is taped to the desk.

How I easily connect my flash drives, it's within easy reach and it's mounted with duct tape and meccanno.

The drives I use are all held in a Meccano cage because the hole spacing is actually perfect and I had it on hand. Like the 6870 the dvd drive and hot swap bay are all ducked taped for rigidity.

whatcha goona do with a case like this? It's not like I can hide the cables anywhere.

Simple and effective, not pretty but it's convenient.

Simple headphone holder.

 

So that's pretty much my ridiculous rig, I thought you guys would enjoy it. I should have taken pictures of it when it was caseless, just sitting on my desk (or at the LAN). If I make any major changes I'll post an update. So any suggestions on how to improve my awesome rig? Any more pictures in particular you guys want?

 

I'm in the process of designing a lasercut wooden case to house my computer but that's not going to get any meaningful progress for at least another long time, I will definitely update when i do that (maybe even get some noctuas and some paracord B) ).
