i5-6500 vs i5 7500

Which would be better for programming (stuff like python) and light gaming?

                  CPU: Intel Core i5 6400 ~ ASUS GTX 950 OC STRIX GB ~

                           RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 16GB dual channel 

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H170-HD3 ~ SSD:HyperX Savage 240GB  ~  PSU: Corsair CX550M

 ~ MOUSE: Logitech G700s ~ KEYBOARD: Razer Blackwidow tournament

            HEADPHONES: Focousrite HP60  ~ MIC:Focusrite CM25 ~ A.I: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 ~ MONITOR: Asus VC239H 23-inch IPS Monitor ~ CASE: Fractual Design define R4  ~ Corsair MM300 Medium

Doesn't matter, but if you want to buy a new cpu just go with kaby lake because there isn't a very big price difference.

They're virtually identical, though the 7500 is technically faster because it comes clocked about 200 MHz faster. Get the new platform if the price is within a few pounds, but there's no reason to pay much extra for it.

 

There's also the i5-6600… it's 100 MHz slower than the i5-7500 at base and 100 MHz faster at it's maximum boost clock. But, again, it's not worth paying much more over the 6500.

The 7500 is clocked higher, so since they have the same IPC it will be a little faster, if they were the same price I'd take the 7500.
