Two Different Ram speeds one PC!

Go to solution Solved by GrowlinVapor,

I recently bought the wrong ram for my pc.

At first I had: 2x 4gb Tactical Tracer DDR3 1866mhz- by crucial

I bought : 2x 4gb HyperX blue DDR3 1333mhz

I haven't noticed any difference in performance, but is it safe to do this ( run both in the same pc)?

You can run both in the PC it'll just run the 1866mhz RAM at 1333mhz. It's prefered you don't do that simply because you're going to lose that speed. Also the RAM could run at different voltages so you might want to look into that as well.

Kinda interested, what happens if ram was ran at different voltages? Would the mb just limit the voltage to the lowest volt of the two or just not work at all?

The motherboard can only choose one voltage to feed all RAM. So if you have different speed DIMMs you should manually set it to the highest of the two on the different RAM spec sheet.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

My diagnostics do show that the memory is running at 1333mhz, and voltage isn't bothered... the pc understands that there are two dirrrent rams but is only giving the amount of power that the 1333mhz needs.
