Was filling it out.. but then as I was going through I realized I know nothing about arm processors. So I just gave up since my input wouldn't be helpful anyways

Same thing. I know. They should rename it to i3 equivalent, pentium equivanent. Much easier

The SOCs were listed in order of performance with the lower performing at the top and the best at the bottom. You can try again if you want .

I think your test is slightly flawed. Samsung and Qualcomm SoCs are often quite comparable.

Also, didn't Microsoft say they'll only support products for 3 years?

As long as a Windows phone supports a bare minimum of hardware required by Windows, you can update it and use it.

 

That's why 1GB RAM is the minimum on the list.

Cool. I do think that you need to take the results with many grains of salt though, since the average age of the forum is quite young.

Yeah I am. The results we have were filtered to remove some silly results (people expecting Snapdragon 820 for $200 price point etc).

 

A lot of people are overestimating the SOC for the $100-150 range though which is quite interesting.

The 625? It probably comes from a lack of knowledge about the product stack.

The 625 is a solid $400 range SoC. Rumored to be in the new Blackberry, hopefully!

The 625 (14nm) is a newer replacement for the 617 (28nm). The 617 was in $300 and $200 phones last year......

Nah. The 650 lineup is more in that area now. The 65x has become the affordable Snapdragon 8xx series.

ok start at the low end so losses are minimised. if you can produce quality at a low price you can attract investment to do more ambitious projects

Nah. The 650 lineup is more in that area now. The 65x has become the affordable Snapdragon 8xx series.

I'd much rather have the 625. The 65x suck up battery almost as bad as the 810 on which they're roughly based.

Eh, doesn't really work like that. You'd want to aim for the mid segment or high, as there's usually more margin in those products.

depends on what your doing. i was thinking cheap phones are sold near cost price to customers when they are locked into a telco provider. For example i can get an android phone for the price of a box of beer coz it will only work on vodafone. Theres an opportunity to get a bulk order for your white label/no label product. Many chinese and Taiwan OEMs started out providing no label products to other companies

It's true that cheaper phones tend to have way worse profit margins and are usually close to breaking even.
