RAM Issue

Hey guys,

 

So I've got a bit of an issue right now. I Upgraded from an FX-6300 to an i5-6600k and decided to go for 16 GB of memory this time. Everything was working fine until recently when I found out that my pc is only detecting 8 GB out of 16 GB. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 3 with 16 GB of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4.

Any suggestions on possible fixes are greatly appreciated!

what cpu do you have

Intel i5-6600k

what slots on the motherboard are you using make sure the two sticks are in slots of the same color

try each stick individually and if it doesn't boot when one stick is in that stick is probably dead

Actually, I reversed which sticks were in each slot and the PC didn't boot. But I ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic and it detected no errors. Should I try a different program?

The second stick might have a problem, it says only 512MB on the screenshot you sent. Try to boot only with it and see what happens. And remember to quote people, so they get a notification

try one stick at a time still if it boots with one then not with other the second stick is probably dead.

sounds like the one stick is dead and might have killed the slot its in also or the slot killed the ram

Now that you mention it there was a power surge in my house a couple of nights ago.

is you pc on a surge protector

Make sure xou use the correct DIMM Slots  ( manual)

Run "memtest". 1024mb each. Run as many tests at once till you reach your 16GB. Let it run over Night 6-8hours.

W10 PRO? Home only allows for 16gb I believe.

I only have 16 GB of RAM so home shouldn't be a problem

Well guys, I might just have to call g skill on this this one, I moved the ram and no results. Just gonna RMA the stick that's bad. Appreciate all the suggestions though! I'll let you guys know if anything changes.
