Exactly!  That's why im opting in for an I7.  There will be some minor changes to this build (RAID 5 compatible card), I will keep the first post updated when I do make some changes.

I don't know if my NAS build is of interest to you but it's similar in purpose with being a Plex server and local NAS.  I added my original build details in this post and then here is my post with the updated information.

 

Here's the summary of my build:

Will your "server" be the only computer in the house? You don't have a spare? I use quotes because you have listed consumer-grade hardware.

IBM M5110, LSI 9260, LSI 9266, LSI 9270, LSI 9271, HP P410, HP P420, HP P430, HP P440 etc. Tons of options out there, will need to use a SAS to 4x SATA cable for these SAS cards.

Not sure what you're getting at here, besides the fact that I am not the OP.


....any my 'servers' are not consumer-grade.
