Don't get an external drive if you plan of using it a lot. Just get another internal drive and keep what you need to carry with out on a flash drive. You also might want to wait for ryzen if you can.

Yeah, but if he is just going to be gaming, the 7700K is the best option, if he is is doing video editing, 3D work etc. X99 will be a better choice.

Memory doesn't need to be beyond -2400.  If you just want to be higher in benchmarks, ok then, otherwise drop it down.

 

Put in a Intel 7260 wifi card.  Asus doesn't make chips so get something from the source.

 

I personally don't trust Samsung SSDs.  They fucked up the 840 firmware badly and took several updates to fix it.  I also had an 840 Evo die out of nowhere.  Intel on the other hand I have drives that are 5 years old with 0 firmware updates.

You can get CPU's with more cores + quad channel memory and usually more RAM slots.
