Hey guys. I'm looking into building something that'll let me run both Ableton and Photoshop fine. My laptop is doing well with both at the moment but I wanna work on a new setup. I saw Linus' video last month revolving around a $500 pc build.

It included

AMD 860K with cooler
MSI Gaming Radeon RX 480 4GB
ASUS Micro ATX DDR3 2400 NA
Kingston 8GB DDR3 RAM
Cooler Master Elite 342 with 400W PSU
Sandisk Z410 240GB SSD

I don't do any PC gaming so the graphics card might not be a huge thing to me, and I don't do any video editing / heavy renderings. I'm looking to seeing if anyone has had any experience with that processor using Ableton, and if that setup is perfectly fine with Photoshop.

If you don't have any pc gaming needs at all then drop the graphics card all together, or go with a low-level one. Switch your chipset to intel, ableton is very cpu heavy, and your money will go further in it this way. I use it personally, and that AMD cpu won't really be able to run ableton that well, and that'll allow you to upgrade your GPU in the future.

Better dead than Red.

Got a vastly better CPU, twice as much RAM, and a power supply that won't blow your computer up. This processor will perform several times better than the 860k.

I'm looking for exactly the same thing right now (ableton for me, photoshop for the missus) so I'm gonna subscribe to this. Thanks a lot all!

There is a good website that my colleague sent to me that displays pretty good synergy between components so you are not purchasing an overkill processor
