hi,,,i have a question about different models of asus 1080 base graphics cards,,,

The GEFORCE 1080 founders edition or FE has lower base clock and boost clock in comparison to ROG STRIX OC edition and it hasn't OC option,,,but i checked their prices and the FE model actually is about 200 dollars more than the ROG OC model,,,so whats the reason behind this? i don't get it !!! why the better one is cheaper?

FE edition in newegg is 850 $              http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814126101

ROG OC edition in newegg is 680 $     http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126103

thanks...

The Founder's Edition is essentially the short version of the "I'm rich and want the GPU now, but I'm too lazy to wait and buy the better, cheaper version that probably won't have many issues compared to the FE edition" edition. Or in layman's terms, the "Here come dat Rich Boi, oh shit waddup"

Because Nvidia did a stoopid and decided to price their reference cards much higher than MSRP. the FE in newegg you found is overpriced, but it's true that FE cards are worse, and higher priced.

that being said, there are some reasons why somebody would want to get a FE card. almost all watercooling blocks fit only onto FE cards.

Go with the STRIX OC or the Advanced version. I had the OC and it was a beast. The only difference between the two are the factory overclocks which you can just bump the OC yourself if you want. I'd go with the OC model you linked or the Adv. version if you want to save a few bucks.

Like everyone else suggested, avoid the FE model.

There are two reasons that you might consider an FE card. Water cooling has already been mentioned.

The second reason is basically a rare situation. Blower style cooling (what all the FE cards have) is usually less effective than the open recycling coolers found on the non-Founders Edition cards. There are some case configurations (usually found in mini/micro cases) where airflow is so restricted that the fan closest to the backplate is starved resulting in high thermals on the card. In this rare situation, the FE blower coolers are better.

Sgt. Murphy says, "Never forget that your weapons and equipment were made by the lowest bidder."

Wazzup....I dont know if this will help your choice... but i my self shop around on beer pockets with champagne wants/needs.. but this time around ive been lucky and I have managed to pick up an Asus gtx 1080 FE for what is equivalent to $830 or R11 000 i didnt buy it new i got it off a guy in a trade off in august 2016  it was new  had been used onceB| .Although i must say Ive never really liked the reference cards that is until the current pascal lineup of blower styled coolers ive also had access to a OEM nvidia GTX1060  FE and I cant fault them this time round on there build quality (ok yes maybe if u some how  overcooked ur gpu you could always  anchor it to a boat:D...  seen as it weighs about the same)but it FEELS like $830 worth of GPU its not plasticy, flimsy, got gimmicky rgbs or any other kind of cheap manufacturing it feels like a coach built Rolls Royce compared to a quick vw golf with side skirts on:x but it doesnt lack in performance either {i kid u not 132%tdp  +230 core clock=in game 2075 mhz stable and  +1000 mem  at 66c clock all on a single 8pin!! its NOO slouch on air imagine a waterblock on it... so really that added 6pin is literally for all the flashy lightsxD } remember your hardware is only as good as the user who uses it ....  and most water cooling solutions are plug and play with all FE so to say...  so yes for a FE theirs a demon lurking inside it and i feel its right that nvidia are charging that bit more for it because it also drives the aftermarket producers  to give and build better quality units bettering our chances as the consumers to win the "so call silicon lottery"more often and as far as im concerned nvidia is setting a standard with that price difference.. so maybe that helps shed light on that situation...?o.O
