Adaptable File Path?

I am using apple script editor and I am creating a program that I am going to be putting on multiple computers. The program will consist of files that need a set file path to retrieve them. Is there a way to make a variable in the file path or some how store the file in the program itself??

you can have it ask for the path via userinput and then use that as a variable.
