i have a 4 TB WD external HDD and it is recognized on my windows 7 laptop but not my windows 8 laptop

I've gotten points for everything in the book. Really not too concerned. Not to mention if you really want to get around a ban, it's possible. Just go to the MP1st forums and ask about me.

would compressing the drive using windows 7 under the properties tab cause windows 8 not to recognize it

had the same issue with an internal drive not being found, don't know jack about windows 8 but you have to go

(i have my windows in dutch so do now how it's all called in english sorry )

start menu => right click on computer => maintence or something (only one with the admin acces logo) => storage => diskthingy and there you should be able to find it somehow.
if you find it, you have to unlock somehow, (long time ago, don't remember all the details sorry ) ,
again this is for windows 7, not sure for windows 8
