I have my nzxt gamma cased pc right now under my desk with four sides surrounding it. I have two 80mm intake fans on the side panels and my system is right now running hot under games like bf3 and BL2, so I was wondering if I add a front intake fan would help?

Adding a front intake fan would help with the airflow but your exhaust needs to be good enough to get the heat away from your computer and not trap it around your case. What is your current fan configuration? Do you have fans on the rear or top?

You might want to try and re-position your rig but, as mgsstar said, front intake fans will help as long as your exhaust is good enough

My fan setup right now is the stock nzxt fan exhasting from the back and two 80mm rosewill fans for side intake.

I don't have anywhere else to re-position it as I have a phone, lamp, monitor, and lamp on my desk

According to NZXT spec sheet on your case, try the following config.....Front: 1x120mm (intake), Side: up to 2x120mm (intake as this will blow on your gpu/cpu), Top: 2x140mm (exhaust), Rear: 1x120mm (exhaust)..this will max out the fan positions on this case....good ratio of intake/exhaust.  if you can, squeeze some filters in there...

I was thinking about getting the cougar vortex( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553002 ). Is there any other good fans I should check out. My budget per fan is 15 dollars at most. I looking 120mm fan with good air flow with moderate amount of sound.

The Cougar Turbines are a cheaper choice but the Vortex is better in terms of airflow and it is a bit louder than the Turbine (17.9 dB vs 17.7dB). Currently have Turbines in my case and they push a decent amount of air even when undervolted.

I might just get myself a set, I might sound like a noob so bear with me, can you use fan controller or mobo to control the speed of 3 pin fans

Yes you will just control these fans using voltage control on your motherboard or a fan controller instead of using PWM (pulse width modulation, that is what the 4th pin is for). Usually modern motherboards will support 3 pin fan control on a 4 pin header.
