I have a new laptop that have a  western digital slim 1tb (WDC WD10SPCX-16KHST0) hdd. Even I didn't do anything on my laptop, the disk usage are like 30-50%. If I open word(only word nothing else), it will increase to 100%. Is this normal? I use Crystal disk mark to do a test. Below is the result.

Everything is very slow. Programes take a long time to load.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 have this thing called Task Manager, which can show how much CPU, memory, disk and network each app is using. Another option is Resource Monitor.

Task Manager also shows in the application list, how much resources each application is consuming. Anything there?

Check Resource Monitor also, it can show some interesting information regarding what is loading the disk.

Well obviously is word using most of the disk. Doesn't matter which programme. If I open up chrome, chrome will have a high usage.

I am asking that is this normal having high usage in hdd? Every is very slow.

I'm guessing there's lots of bloatware installed because you said it's new, do to task manager and see which programs auto start, then disable the ones you don't want.

i uninstall all of the pre-install useless software already. I even disable one drive at startup. Is this the difference of ssd and hdd?

I meant disable the programs from launching automatically, but since you have uninstalled them that's even better. You could see if there's something wrong with your drive by using some SMART drive program, but other than that there's nothing you can do, laptop drives are usually slow.

SMART show the drive is healthy. I think is the difference between ssd and hdd. I better change it to a ssd.
