PCIe x1 mode problem

Hi,

I am using an ASRock Q1900M (CPU: Celeron J1900) and although it has a PCIe x16 slot it says x1 mode. Is there a way to change this or is this mainboard simply limited to x1 speed?

Like first of all because of your cpu that slot can only run at x4 speed anyways i dunno why it would be set to x1

I believe the x1 mode is a limitation set by the manufacturer?

Also in desktop GPUS go in pci x1 to save power

The intel J1900 only has 4 PCIe lanes to begin with.

 

That motherboard's x16 slot is only wired for x1 mode. So you COULD use a GPU in there but it will woefully underperform.

So this is a built-in limitation or can I at least change it to x4 mode or something?

It's a physical limitation. The slot only has enough pins for PCIe x1.

Its not really a built-in "limitation" so much as a design choice for that CPU. It is not intended to be used in systems with high performance PCIe cards in it.

 

Short answer, no. A PCIe 1x slot is a PCIe 1x slot. (it is physically x16, only to allow for larger cards to physicaly fit, but they will only run in 1x mode)
