Killing Alduin?

I have a few questions to the community and want to confirm that i got the story right. It was 5am and I was so tired that the plot kinda flew over my head. I would be glad if someone could explain the story to me, because I havent found anything (usefull) on Google.

 

If i got it right, there are 2 options for killing Alduin, the first one is traveling back in time with the Elder Scolls and learning a shout named Dragonsred and killing Alduin with it (wich would make no sense, because you only would transport him further into the future, and the whole mess would start all over again). However, Arngier told me, that this shout is evil or something like that, so I dont want to necessarily learn it. So there is a second option, of trapping Alduin in Dragonsreach in Whiterun and, with the help of the Elder Scrolls, explain the concept of mortallity to him (at least thats what Paarthurnax says in the german version of the game).

 

Am I right, and if, what option should i pick?

There is only one option, killing Alduin. You use Dragonsreach on a different dragon. Sorry for spoilers.

First you travel back in time and see the original battle with Alduin, where they fail to kill him and instead just send him to the future/present.

 

Then you do some more quests, go to Sovngarde, and kill him for good.

Yea those aren't options in the story. In reality,

 

you'll challenge Alduin at the throat of the world, and once defeated using the shout of mortal words, Alduin will flee. You will then capture a dragon using a trap in Dragonsreach, and have him fly you to the portal that Alduin takes to regain power, Sovngarde. There you'll meet legends of old and finally defeat Alduin with their help.
