So at the moment I'm in the planning process for my next build, in which I'm planning on using solid tubing, however, I want to use plated copper in place of acrylic that seems to be the norm for solid tubing implementations.

(What I want the copper plated with is still undecided, although chrome seems the most likely option for now)

As I'm unsure of how I would make it work like I've seen in some build logs, my question is, will any fittings that accept acrylic tubing work for this? (Provided the appropriate sized tubing was used, of course)

Also, if anyone has done any of this kind of thing themselves or has any advice, please share it!

Cheers.

we can let @B NEGATIVE roll with this as he has done metal and acrylic hard line

builds. his SR2 is prolly what you are looking for.

I have a little experience with copper tubing both from working as a plumber (summer job in college) and from making certain "water distillation devices' *wink wink* (also in college). My advice is as follows:

  • Buy sand paper, a pipe cutter, a pipe straightener and a pipe bender.
  • Make sure you sand all your ends to round them out a bit.
  • Only bend tube you have already straightened or it will never look right.
  • Practice bending the pipe first, it is a good idea to have a few pieces with bends at specific angles (30 45 90) with sharpie marks at where the bend begins (this will help you replicate the bends as you can place your 'template piece' next to your pipe to show you where to begin the bend and to compare for the correct angle). You will need to practice bending to get it right.
  • If your bends are kinking/flattening/cracking you can fill the pipe with very fine sand/salt/water/ice to help it keep its shape.
  • Here are some fittings you could, use. There are others, but this will give you an idea http://koolance.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=62_107 You should also be able to use bitspower acyclic hard-tube fittings, just match the fitting internal diameter (ID) with the copper tubes outer diameter (OD).
  • As for the plating of it, I would suggest nickle as opposed to chrome due to cost.

Hope this helps.
