Need help choosing an AMD cpu

So i'm doing a build for a friend and i'm too sure about which AMD cpu to get. I want to get a Piledriver for him, are the 6 cores any good? for example the fx 6300?

they are pretty decent, they don't compete with the i5's, but they are pretty decent, also if you have 2 questions, just put them in one thread

on a tight budget a 6300 will do fine, if you have a bit more an 8 core

If you're doing a build, plan it as a whole and not pick parts separately or else you easily get an unbalanced parts list.

Get the 8 core if you can but the 6 core is still fine, it wont beat the Intel i5 but its still good.

do a price comparison of a 6300 and a 8320.

the 6300 is 3 modules and the 8320 is 4

divide the price by the number of modules, the one with the cheaper "per module" price...wins, in most cases its either a draw or the 8320

eithe way get a 6+2 or 8+2 power phase board for the 6300 and ONLY get an 8+2 board (most 990fx's) for the 8320.

you could potentially run the 6300 on a 4+1 but you cant overclock safely

you CANNOT run an 8 core on a 4+1 and itll be limited on a 6+2

where are you looking at buying? uk, usd?, Australian dollar, euro's?

8320 is £116.93=£29.23p/module

pretty much a draw, in this case id just get the 8 core, seeing as you need a good board either way id just get this and enjoy the extra 33% more encoding power i have (like converting mkv's to avi's in 20 minutes instead of 30)

Yep, should be good, i usually use ebuyer or amazon because over a certain price they have free delivery and that ends up costing less than aria or scan who have slightttly cheaper prices but add on £7 worth of postage.

id say just get the, dont go crazy overclocking btw, just because you can get 4.8 doesnt mean itll be worth the extra time, voltage, heat and power consumption, take some advice from an older, uk, amd guy, moderate overclocks (like 4.2-4.4) are plenty.

That's cool, it's better to start and learn and learn and learn (we don't stop learning, we cant afford to otherwise knowledge is lost, we just do it less and less over time).

I'm talking to another guy in another thread (very civilised i must say) of the pros and cons of an fx8 vs i5/i7 im saying fx8 because it makes the most sense most of the time overall, but I will say you cant post bf4 data because its not a completely done game, it will be glitchy for a while yet, every reviewer wants to be the first out when really they should review it 3 months in, also i never believe results in 1 benchmark/game people don't just play 1 game..
