Hi all,

Hope you all had a good xmas and New Years

SO, I am considering getting another XFX RX480 8GB XXX edition, this won't be for a while probably, i'm just throwing some ideas around because as we all know with PCs there is always something you can spend more money on.

Has anyone got this setup and working or has any general opinions on it?

As far as I know so far:

There are not that many games YET that can utilise Crossfire effectiviely, so am I better off just waiting for a few months potentially a year
IMO temps won't be affected that much as they are blower style coolers so just exhaust they heat inside them.

BY THE WAY: I like this card and I like the way it looks, I don't want an Nvidia card, I'm happy with what I've got, I don't care about MEEEGGHHH WHY DONT YOU GET A 1080 FOR THE PRICE YOU'RE PAYING FOR TWO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I got my first RX480 for about 120 after ex vat and selling my old card, this one will be a future purchase if I want to go ahead with it.

I'd do it personally, just for the sake of having two cards in my system.

I'd also buy a Freesync monitor

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

That is my exact reasoning, I think it would look awesome.

And with my current setup I sit quite far away from my PC so I'm currently using a 32" LG TV that was only new late last year, so a freesync monitor would be a purchase that I would consider a lot later.

Thanks for the reply!

Depends what monitor you have. If it's something with 144hz, or a higher resolution, maybe.

If games haven't take a liking to SLI/CF yet, I honestly wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think it'll ever take off and receive full support. Hence why Nvidia is dropping support for more than two cards, and will likely move forward to reduce it even further in the future.

As GPUs get more powerful, and there's less reason to buy 2 cards, support will just drop and drop. It's not really worth the time for devs to support something a fraction of a percent of users run.

If it helps, there are 27 and 28 inch Freesync ones even 1080p (AOC does a 27" 1080p 144Hz Freesync, wow that's a lot of words)

That's very true actually, I didn't think of that. I'm hoping that AMD stick to crossfire being an option for people, but as you say as they get better they'll be less and less point for it.

Thanks, you have given me food for thought

It's also a lot of money :P

But you may be right, I may benefit more from freesync than a second card.....

Thanks, like the other member you have given me more thoughts and options

You know, you could also sell the current RX480 you have and use the money from that+money you'd spend on a 2nd RX480 to get a Vega GPU when it comes out. Single high performance GPU will always be better than two lower-end GPUs.

Good point! Do we have any news about them or is it a "on the horyzen (pun intended)" kinda thing?

They have a Vega architecture preview tomorrow (look at http://ve.ga for the timer). From what we can see so far it's going to be a good day for the red team.

Even if AMD sticks to it, devs won't, and they're the most important piece of the puzzle ;)

Which sucks. There's a lot of cool stuff out there that'd make games better if devs put in the work.

I'd see what the 490 does. Chances are that'll be more than you need for whatever monitor you get anyway.

Sorry yeah that one :P

Yeah I will do, could be worth just upgrading rather than doubling up :)
