A lot of times when I youtube video editing software, or when I search to see what people use to edit videos, it comes down to mostly being the Adobe suit. Sometimes people mention Sony Vegas, but that's about it.

I was wondering if there were any free, or open source video editing software. I have Windows Movie Maker, but there are some things that I don't think it can do.

If I had a list of things I'd want the software to do it'd be:

1. allow .mp4 recorded files to be imported

2. allow pictures (.png and .jpg/.jpeg) to be inserted for a customizable duration of time

3. allow multiple audio tracks to be used (I don't know if video editing software can do this. I have a few DAW in which I can use for sound if the video editing software cannot) (.mp3 wav and aiff should be sufficient.)

3.5 allow audio tracks from clips to be free from the video (ie allow the audio to continue playing if I insert a picture, or to take the audio and place it somewhere else in the video)

4. able to put music/voice overs over the video clips.

5. allow subtitles/text to be placed on screen

6. allow smaller videos to play inside the frame (For instance when LTT points to an older video and plays a small bit in a smaller frame.) Similar to everything going on here: (Starts at a specific point in the video)

See how it has pictures in the bottom left, and shows a few on the right, and then spawns in a video in the upper right? Kinda like that stuff. (This was the only example I could find in a quick search.)

That's all I can think of that I'd want a video editing software to do. Windows movie maker can do a few of those things, but not all of them from what I've seen, and seems to only export in 480p. I guess that's sufficient at least for now. I don't want to pay some subscription as it's practically indefinitely renting it, as opposed to actually owning the software.

Thank you for any recommendations.
Posting download links helps. I prefer it to be on windows or a .exe file

Thank you. I found this user on youtube that has very comprehensive tutorials for the software, and it is exactly what I wanted.
Very swift and easy to do what I want to do.
